Gable Mitts - T&K 056

These dainty mitts use a cabled chevron design to accentuate the wrist. Knit them as long as you like for a night at the opera or to keep your arms warm under a dress coat. The matching chevron thumb adds a touch of whimsy.

Other Details: These fingerless mitts begin with a decorative double stranded, double-start cast-on. You cast on for the portion closest to the fingers. Placement of increases and decreases create the peak at the finger opening. You will provisionally cast on the thumb gusset stitches and add them into the round when you reach the appropriate point. The thumb gusset can be placed on the palm, or between the stockinette palm and the patterned mitt back, depending on your thumb placement preference. The provisionally cast on stitches are decreased down to create the gusset. At the wrist the chevron shaping ceases and begins to be knit straight (which pulls the wrist in and makes it snug). The arm is bound off with the stretchy sewn bind-off that when worked with a double strand of yarn approximates the cast-on edge.
