Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I purchased through your online shop, but didn't receive a download link. How do I download my patterns?

A: Download links are not e-mailed, you need to log in to the shop and check your account/order history. Downloads are housed there, but the links will expire after 72 hours or 3 downloads, whichever comes first. If your downloads have expired, see below for instructions on getting them refreshed.

Q: I lost my pdf file because my computer crashed/I lost the printout/I just can't find it, etc... Can I get the download refreshed? -OR-

Q: My download links say they have expired. Can I get the download refreshed?

A: Yes. Just send me an e-mail WITH YOUR ORDER NUMBER and I will refresh that order number so you can re-download the pdf file.

Q: I want to substitute X yarn for the original yarn called for, will it work?

A: If you can get a fabric you like and still get the specified gauge, then you don't have to do anything to get the same size as specified. If you need to change the gauge to get a good hand on the fabric, the size of the finished item will change. For non-sized garments like scarves and shawls, size is less important, but for sweaters or socks, small changes in gauge make a big difference. In these cases, it would be better to find a yarn that will meet the gauge requirements.

Q: I have a question about a specific knitting technique or abbreviation. What can I do?

A: There are many great sites that have videos and descriptions of knitting techniques. I recommend <a href="www.knittinghelp.com">KnittingHelp.com</a> for all the basics. And google for any more complicated techniques.

Q: I want a MimKnits pattern for free, why are the patterns not free?

A: I do offer some free patterns as a way for knitters to test out my pattern writing style, but a lot of time, work, and experience goes into the patterns I offer for sale.

Q: I want one of your patterns, but want a printed copy, not a download. Can I buy a paper copy?

A: I don't sell paper copies through my shop, but please check with my list of retailers to find a retailer who sells paper copies.

Q: I don't use Paypal can I send a check?

A: I do accept checks/money orders as payment. Go through the checkout process as normal, but select "check/money order" as your payment option during checkout. Your order will be listed as Pending until I receive your payment and authorize your download(s). I will notify you by e-mail when your downloads are available.

Q: What is your refund policy?

A: If you have downloaded the file, I will not be able to give you a refund on the download purchase. My shop software keeps track of whether or not the file has been downloaded, and if you have accessed it, no refund will be available. However, if you have accidentally purchased a duplicate of a pattern you previously purchased on the same account, then I will void the duplicate transaction and refund the purchase through paypal.

Q: There was a paypal glitch and my payment went through twice, what should I do?

A: Just send me an e-mail, and I will look into it and refund the duplicate payment.

Q: I bought a paper pattern from a LYS or as part of a club subscription, and I need a replacement. Can I get a download to replace it?

A: Unfortunately, no. I can only authorize replacements on download purchases and not on paper pattern purchases.

Q: Can I purchase a finished shawl?

A: No, I only sell downloads and wholesale paper patterns.  If you are desperately in love with one of my pieces, I suggest you find a yarn store in your area and learn to knit, or make REALLY good friends with someone who knits and will gift you with one. The nature of the copyright does not allow a knitter to knit and sell you the garment.
